We utilize 8620 and 9310 alloy steel for its high tensile strength to withstand strong centrifugal force, high load force, high feed rate, and difficult-to-machine material in the era of current CNC machining environment. As the forces exponentially increase, precision and strength in machining and tooling requires a higher quality of the retention knob or pull stud connecting the spindle to the tool holder.

Our retention knob and pull stud sockets were designed to achieve ideal tightness without damage to the retention knob or pull stud. We have four sizes available that fit our full line of retention knobs and pull studs. Our sockets are made with AISI 4140 steel made in the USA and machined in the United States at our plant in Mantua, Ohio. Our retention knob sockets are hardened to 54-56 RC and have a black oxide finish.
Please use machine builders torque specifications or the ASME published retention knob installation torque guide. Damage or injury may occur if improper torque is applied. The machine builder designed the spindle and specified the knob for machine torque and RPM.
If you have an older tooling we may still have the retention knob that works in your machine. We have about 100 hundred custom knobs that are not listed on our website.
